On Safari, it seems like mouse buttons that aren't LMB, RMB or MMB get mapped to MMB (button 2).

For example, clicking the back/forward mouse button will trigger a middle mouse click on the server.

There is a bug report upstream [1]

Tested this after the vendor drop, and the extra mouse buttons no longer generate any button events on Safari.
