Description Tobias cendio 2023-05-22 15:40:38 CEST
License subsections 1.5-1.10 could benefit from some elaboration and rearranging to better convey the information.
Comment 4 Tobias cendio 2023-05-23 09:20:38 CEST
Parts of the EULA license content has been updated, and the document has been checked to adhere to its traditional format (as detailed in the acceptance criteria).

Tips for tester; how to check line termination format:
$ file EULA.txt

Acceptance criteria
-------------------

In general, the criteria look good, and they all pass:

> * The license section should clearly convey its intended message
Yes, it does. I think the new additions are helpful.

> * The updated EULA should display an updated version number
It does.

> Exhibit the format:
> * 2 lines preceding a new section
Check

> * 1 line preceding a new subsection
Check

> * 8 characters reserved for (sub)section numbering
Check

> * Maximum row length of 72
Check

> * CRLF (DOS format) line terminators
Check, verified both using “file” and by checking that I don't get any diff in git after running “unix2dos”. I also verified that things behaved the same in this regard before the changes (checked out r40222).

Commits
-------

The code looks good, and mistakes from the first commit were properly taken care of.

After internal discussions, it has become clear that the purpose of this EULA change was not to clarify some items, but rather to change things.

Prior to this change, it was not allowed to distribute the ThinLinc server freely, it must have been provided by Cendio. We believe that we can achieve greater spread by changing this to be allowed. One example is the thinlinc-server package on Arch's AUR, where with this change it would now be possible for them to include the ThinLinc server package instead of instructing users to manually download it from cendio.com:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/thinlinc-server

In light of this, the bug summary has been updated, but we will also need to add release notes. Reopening for release notes.

A release note has now been added.

From the acceptance criteria:

> Upcoming release notes should notify users of the updated EULA

Checked the release notes concerning the updated EULA and its new take on distributing the server package. They look good and properly convey Cendio's intentions.

Closing.
