Created attachment 750 [details] Screenshot of the crash information Ubuntu 16.04 desktop, fully updated, Unity, ThinLinc 4.7.0rc1 server. Happens every time any user logs in using ThinLinc. Does not happen when logging in locally. Ubuntu's bug reporting tool does not let me copy the text from the crash info dialogue.. So I attached a screenshot, no debug symbols, though.
Only happens when starting a new session. Happens for both administrators and normal users. > cendio@ubuntu:~$ dpkg -l | grep gnome-screensaver > ii gnome-screensaver 3.6.1-7ubuntu4 amd64 GNOME screen saver and locker
Turning off "Lock" under the user's settings->Brightness&Lock->Lock get's rid of the crash message, even if you afterwards turn it back on. The same behavior applies if a user "continues" with reporting the bug using the crash dialogue. Note that this is even if the box for "Ignore future problems of this type" is left UNCHECKED.
Reported upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1631364
There is nothing that depends on gnome-screensaver so you can just uninstall it.
Also note that mate-screensaver seems to have inherited this bug, at least judging from the code.
We'll do a platform specific note for this and then we'll consider our work done.
A platform specific note has been added for Ubuntu.
(In reply to comment #7) > A platform specific note has been added for Ubuntu. Have verified that the instruction in the platform specific notes does get rid of the crash message and that the Unity screensaver still works. ThinLinc 4.7.0rc2 on Ubuntu 16.04.
