There are a number of situations where it would be desirable to start an application on the local client, from the remote session. Ideally, it should be possible to start the local application with information available only in the remote session, e.g. open a browser with a specific URL, or a viewer with a specific file argument.

One suggestion has been to implement a "local application" option in the client's F8 menu. We should investigate the pros and cons of several different approaches, and determine if this is something we can have (or want) in the product.
