This is from Issue 13005. Somehow a BOM creeped into profiles.hconf (probably used some windows tool to edit it), and this causes hiveconf to crap out with a syntax error. We might need to handle this, or at least detect it and present something more constructive. Most editors won't show the BOM, so I had to resort to hexdump to see it.
