Perhaps we should look at having the compression level automatically controlled as well (currently we just fiddle with the quality level). This is relevant for low color data (e.g. wireframe models) where CPU on the server often becomes the limiting factor.

We need to investigate what the tradeoffs are at different levels and choose two appropriate settings.
